MBNA stole my thunder.....

This isn't a problem at all, but MBNA annoyed me over the weekend and I want to moan about it....
My husband and I recently received a lump-sum payment which we have been waiting for a considerable amount of time now. I paid all the credit cards which weren't on 0%, a loan, and paid back family members.
The thing I was looking forward to most of all was cancelling my Alliance and Leicester Credit Card. I transferred balances to the card a couple of years ago and after the 0% period ended they put the interest rate up from 15% APR to 26.9% APR. I started uni and was unable to apply for another card so I've just been stuck with it for over a year. The minimum payments were around £150 per month with only £5 per month paying off the actual balance. I was really looking forward to calling them after the balance was paid off and telling them what they could do with their absurd interest rate.
However, I received a call on Friday from Virgin for my 'annual review'. After answering their questions they decided that, because I don't have a regular income they were going to reduce the available balance to £500 on each card - I forgot that Virgin were part of the MBNA group along with A&L. So for the past two years that I have been a student they haven't bothered with one of their 'reviews', but as soon as the balance is cleared they think it's appropriate to check I can afford the cards?
I know I should just be thankful that the cards are paid off, and of course I'm elated, but there is just a little niggle as I was really looking forward to giving the cancellations department a full account of my grievances on their so called card ‘benefits’.
Never mind, I’m £30,000 less in debt than I was last week. Only £4,900 to go….

I am over the moon, and although all the money want on debt repayments, I couldn't be happier. We are now in the least amount of debt we've been in for a decade. We were sinking quickly before, and this came along just in the nick of time. Just have to work on the rest now.:TTotal Debt November 2016 =£9,660.52

That really is good news - well done. :T :TI am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

You could soon save that amount up by putting away what your monthly payments were.No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.
