SSP, compensation & general mess! Help please!

Hi there
Bit of a tricky one & thought this might be the best place to put it. Do move it mods if its in the wrong place ( also posted in benefits area too )

On the 20th of March I got paid from work £530 less than usual. I found that they had reduced my wages for SSP. They had not given me any written warning about this, and therefore illegal. Told them so, adn told them i spoke to my union, and they advised all the monies come back to me due to them not giving me written notice and thus illegal. So far so good. ( they put me on SSP cos someone in my office *thought* I was off sick while I was on jury service)

Now in the interim my bank acocunts been bouncing all over the place with standing orders and direct debits failing and me being charged £30 a time.

the remiainder of my pay should have gone into my account today, but hasnt. I dont have any money to get to work so taking the remiander of my annual leave and manager trying to sort it all out for me. this situation is not going down well with my manager, or me, or more as likely my bank.

apparetnly I can claim some of my charges back from work, as its thier fault that im in such a state. But its been so stressful, my creditors are not amused and im getting overcharging letters all over the place, very stressful. God knows what this has done to my credit rating, and im coming up to mortgage time in October.

Can I claim any compensation for the stress/ damage to my relationships with creditors/ damage to my rating?

Your employer should compensate you for the actual losses you have had in terms of bank charges, creditors' charges etc. As you have a union involved why not also discuss asking for a "goodwill" payment by way of compensation for stress etc.

Someone in admin should cop it!! for "thinking" you were sick!

Be careful - I beliee some places of work don;t pay you for jury service, so you might not end up getting the money either way - check with your union.

If your work HAVE made a mistake, then I'd insist they pay any late charges, but not compensation.

    Oh that's good then!!!

Your work should definitely pay the charges because it's THEIR mistake, not yours.

    Good luck!

(Bet you're glad you have a union to do the arguing for you!)

just spoke to the union, they said ALL my charges should come back to me from my employer and there MAY be a case for compo to cover my distress.

    nice one

If you dont ask you wont get!
