Can I freeze buttercream icing?

Options
I made a cake this morning & made too much icing, there'd be plenty for another cake so could I freeze it?

I had left over and it kept in the fridge in a lock n lock (airtight container) for weeks and weeks! I wound't freeze it if you would use within one to two weeks but maybe I was lucky?

Actually, sorry. If it has eggs in then no. I was thinking of a topping I made with butter, philly and icing sugar. Sorry!
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I froze some a couple of weeks ago after making too much when baking some buns with the kids, I have just defrosted it today to make some more buns and it defrosted within an hour and was fine!

Freezing food will not cause food poisoning.

  • Thanks for all your replies. I've popped it in a lock n lock & it's in the freezer. I don't often make icing, everyone always wants fresh cream in cakes :D but I don't like to throw things away!
