Manufacturer's Description
Bye Bye Standby is the UK’s best selling energy saving solution designed to reduce the daily energy consumption of electrical devices. Bye Bye Standby works by completely cutting power to the devices plugged into it when they're not in use, thus saving the power that these devices would otherwise have consumed in Standby Mode. Households in the UK now spend around 10% of their electricity bill on standby power, with the average household having up to 12 gadgets left on standby or charging at any one time (Source: Energy Saving Trust). Bye Bye Standby is a simple and effective way to save energy, carbon emissions and money. Simply plug your Bye Bye Standby socket into a mains wall socket and plug an electrical appliance directly into it. With the choice of either using the Bye Bye Standby remote control (supplied with kit) or a simple wall switch, you can turn individual or grouped appliances on or off at the push of a button (up to 30 meters away). It will even work through walls and ceilings! Additional Bye Bye Standby sockets, remote controls and switches can be purchased separately to suit your individual needs.
Bye Bye Standby can be used in both a home or office environment and can be used with any of the following: Television, DVD player, Set top box, MP3 player, VCR player, Stereo, Printer, Lights, Games console, Computer, Monitor, Phone charger, Scanner, Fax machine & much more...
Can we really afford to standby?

Tesco also have something similar. The one plug version is £10. Not sure how much the 3 plug version is.0

£20 for three of these plugs?!
I'd rather just turn off the appliance, rather than having to leave stuff on standby for a couple of years to justify the expense for what will have very little savings....0 -
I have two of these gadgets - the standby saver for the TV and a surge protected remote control one that I picked up half price in Asda for the computer. Both the TV and the computer are in cabinets and the sockets are behind them making them hard to reach.
I had a problem with my freeview recorder box - it got really upset when it was plugged into the 'smart socket' and recordings failed constantly so reverted to plugging it back into the mains. But the TV, Wii, VCR and DVD are all on the standby saver. And the PC, monitor, printer and router are on the remote control surge protected one
Not only good in terms of energy saving (although I agree it is a small amount) but also for peace of mind not having electrical items on overnight or when out during the day.0 -

Ditto!
I am intending on buying a whole Bye Bye Standby system piecewise, starting with a PIR motion sensor for my hall lights (no window, on most of day). Eventually I will need to replace the generic socket set I am using at the moment, and would prefer to have compatible system.

I have a set and it's great as it saves switching everything off individually as you can change the groupings on the remote control.0

This is supplied by an Amazon preferred merchant (IndigoStarFish), not by Amazon directly. If you click on the 'why?' link and scroll to the bottom you will see the following caveat . . . note this item costs £20.13.
[*]Indigostarfish.com prices do not include VAT because: (a) the State of Jersey does not charge VAT on products purchased in Jersey; and (b) when products are imported into the UK, VAT is usually payable in the UK by the importer of record (the customer is considered the importer of record in respect of items purchased from Jersey). However, there are special tax and customs regulations that exempt personal imports of 'low value' goods (goods with a value below £18) from import VAT. You can find further information regarding the VAT exemption here. When ordering an item from Jersey, you are acting as the importer of record and must comply with all laws and regulations of the UK. To the extent your purchase does not qualify for the low-value exemption from import VAT, you may be liable for import VAT at the time of delivery.
[*]For more information about the VAT relief please read HM Customs and Excise guide to Shopping on the Internet.
