Hi I have the same issue as you, my debt is MUCH larger!!! I do find it very offensive when people assume that we are not going to pay!!!! We did not ask to be in this position did we? We are offering to pay, but at reduced amounts! It is not our fault that the current financial climate has crippled us! WHY do people have to be so ignorant? I hope it NEVER happens to them! :mad:0

For my two-penneth on this whole subject, I say this.... When I got into debt 4 years ago through circumstances beyond my control, I was PLAGUED by banks' accounts collections departments ringing me day after day after day after day. I did not have 25 grand stuffed down the back of the settee - no relatives conveniently popped their clogs leaving me their loot.
I was constantly hectored and cajoled by Sainsbury's, Virgin MBNA, Egg & others who rang me constantly to tell me what an @"$&$$hole I was for being in the position and made to feel like crap. They all to a man told me to forget the other creditors and just pay them - no doubt because whichever one was on the phone at the time telling me to borrow money elsewhere to pay them, not eat, etc, etc etc. They were all the same. Squalid incompassionate bloodsucking SCUM!
These people are IMMORAL themselves !
Plaguiing me with phone calls made me ILL.... but having eventually had to have my phone numbers changed to stop this ongoing mental abuse whilst still maintaining token payments, eventually I asked one of them "What happened to the Payment Protection Insurance?"
All of the monies I owed had been covered by insurance - yet NONE of these institutions offered / suggested reminded me that I had paid / been billed (and paid interest upon) premiums for these insurance policies !!!!!!!!!!
In other words, they kept very, very quiet about the PPI while abusing my telephone service and making me almost mentally ill by hounding me telling me what a no-good so and so I am.
These people have the morals of the sewers! They took premiums (in some instances thousands off of me), yet kept very, very quiet about that while harassing me for money.
And other people whose bodily waste doesn't stink either want to cast judgement on me and other people like me too with comments like "If you took out the loan you should pay it back - shame on you".
What about the shame on the banks for selling insurance at vastly inflated premiums with absolutely no intention of entertaining any claims?
What about the shame on the banks for abusing not just my telephone service through constant hectoring - but tens of thousands of others?
What about their ethics in urging people in debt to borrow the money from elsewhere or not pay other creditors? Or not pay things like motor insurance for the car which is needed to get a victim to work to be able to pay these leaches?
Other people talk about "having good credit". I can tell you NEVER, EVER AGAIN! What? You say - they won't lend anything to me again? At 3 times the interest rate! Who is scamming who? And how much are their ISAs paying these days? Let me tell you all, I save my income tax money in an ISA and my 3 grand (which I will have to give entirely to the taxman at the end of next month) earns me less that £4 a month in interest. My one remaining credit card which I use to pay for petrol when I go to work (though I pay it off every month in full) would have an interest rate of around £8 for less than a couple of hundred quid if I didn't pay it down to zero each month.
Why should I have any compassion or guilt about what I still owe the banks???? Did they help me in any way? Have they actually behaved appropriately at all times? Do the people at the shadier ends of these organisations not tell lie after lie after lie after lie whilst stretching beyond what is reasonable in pursuit of a debt???
Don't lay guilt trips on me about how I should feel for suffering unfortunate circumstances. These people are morally and ethically bankrupt themselves - and I personally now think about owing these institutions money completely differently. They will get their money, eventually (because I am still paying it off at a small amount at a time) PROVIDED I get no more telephone abuse and lies and they each in turn explain to me why they chose not to say to me back in 2006 "Sorry to hear about your problems Mr PaulS43 - but you have insurance on these loans / credit cards.... Let's see if we can make a claim...."
I could write page after page about these people but I think those in the moral crusade brigade who probably work for these institutions or elsewhere in this misery industry should look at themselves before casting judgement on others.
On a brighter note, I have now learned by experience that I don't need to borrow anything from anyone. If I can't pay for something from funds I have available, I don't buy it! And I only use the one credit card I have left because I don't have a switch card to buy petrol and because paying it all off at the end of each month means no interest....

Wow, old thread to which I was still subscribed reappears!
Well, that's interesting, because as it happens, my previous post is no longer valid, as in my 2 catalogues started messing me around, adding charges I didn't owe, not adding credits where they should have, etc, etc... I tried to be reasonable, I spent hours on the phone trying to discuss things with people who are working from a crib sheet, telling me they'll make a note/action it/chase it up next phone call, there isn't even a record of my previous call.
So eventually, I said:"fine, if you can't sort out your mess, you're not getting another penny from me, see you in court if you dare". I CCA'd them, they immediately flogged off the "debt" to a DCA, they have also written a few times, I've been ignoring them, I am better off thanks to their greed and inefficiency by a colossal £300 to £400 a month, have gone back to a cash economy and live better than all the years I was on the never-never.
All they had to do was actually do what they were supposed to do. They changed the rules, expected me to pay for it and threw a tantrum when I wouldn't play by the new rules. Bottom result: I win.
