I need to widen my tarmac driveway. Now I don't want to stereotype, but there are a lot of tarmac cowboys out there.

Anyone recommend a reputable firm/person to do the job?

I want to get mine redone too, ideally widening it at the bottom (so my OH doesn't keep hitting the wing mirrors off the gate posts!). I'm in Belfast.

    Anyone got any recommendations?

  • It all really depends on how much you need done. If it's a huge driveway, then some of the road contractors might be interested however, I know someone used Pedens from Ballymoney however I don't know how far they would travel. They did a job in Ballymena.

We used this lot. Can't remember their name, but they were really tidy and did a fine job. 07860 544331

They even turned up on time and did the job within the timescale they advised for a fantastic price.

    Good luck.

BTW - they are based in Newtownabbey, but we're not and distance didn't seem to be a problem.

That's useful, thanks. What sort of job did you use them for?

We got our driveway done. Not sure of the size as it's an angled driveway which goes round the side of the house, but you can park 4 cars on it and still have room for the kids to play on it. £600 and took less than 1 day - that was them digging up and disposing of the old drive included in the time and price.

Thanks for that. I appreciate you can't remember their name, but can you confirm that they were a proper company, with business premises?

That, I can't as I had no need to be at their premises. However, I've found them on Yell.com. It may be a home address, but then I've a business too and use my home address for it as I have no need for other premises. They have advertised for years on and off in the Larne/Newtownabbey/Carrick Times which is where I got the number in the first place. They were happy to be paid by cheque with the company name on if that helps (and a few 6 packs of beer for the workers, as we were so impressed, weren't refused either ;))
