Hello, I'm new to all this...

I finally plucked up the courage and contacted Payplan a couple of weeks ago, and have decided to go with a DMP. They wrote to my creditors a week ago, and I made the first payment to Payplan yesterday (this is approx 1% of my total debt).

Since contacting Payplan I have started browsing this site and have found the information on here very useful, and feel well prepared for any difficulties which lay ahead.

I'd love to hear if anyone has had fairly stress free time setting up DMP, or are they all fraught? Has anyone had a positive experience with Barclaycard?

Anyway, I'm prepared for some rough times, but that horrible sick feeling I constantly had has gone away, and I feel like there is light at the end. I haven't discussed this with my OH, but he's not an idiot and is aware that something is has been wrong for a long time. His finances are in excellent order, lucky sod.

    :hello:

No advice I am afraid as I have never done a DMP. But didn't want to read and run so thought that I would say, "Hello."

Also, the good folks on here may ask to see your SOA (statement of affairs) so that they can advice you on where you can save money so here is the link

Good luck with your debt free journey, you are in the right place.

hi - I'm going to be phoning the CCCS on Tuesday, I think if i can get all the stuff together by then, looks like a DMP will be the recommended route for us as well, and I'm sure i will be looking to these boards for loads of support as apart from OH no else knows and i intend to keep it like that!
by biggest creditor is Barclays, closely followed by MBNA.

Good luck on your journey, I;m sure our paths will cross on here!! x

I've been with Payplan for 11 months (didn't think it would go so fast) and have 3 outstanding accounts with Barclaycard (due to them taking over other cards) and I have found them to be very good and they accepted what I could afford. There have been no hassles from them since it started, hope I haven't jinxed myself now!!!!!
The worst ones have been J D Williams (not Reliable Collections who handle their business for them) they appear to want a payment every 28 days and not every calendar month.
Good luck and best wishes for a satisfactory outcome. x

Thanks for your kind responses. kpwll - pleased to hear your DMP has gone so well, hope mine does too!

Good luck tomorrow crafty1. Believe me, you will feel so much better once you have contacted CCCS. I felt constantly sick with worry and this occupied almost all of my every waking thoughts. After discussing with Payplan and reading this forum, I feel so much better and know that I will get through this. My regret is that I didn't do this 9 months ago, as I would have been in a lot less debt as I have been using credit to live and pay minimum payments.

Good luck with it. I'm with CCCS.

Can't think of much positive to say about Barcaycard. The harrassment i got from them was unbelievable! Even Easter Sunday last year I received 6 calls from them! They even sent a doorstep collector this time last year. Since then, heard nothing more from them and they've finally accepted my dmp.

You have to ride the storm for the first few months. It does settle down. Not had a call from a creditor in over 6 months now - just get snotty letters instead which get kept for future use as evidence if needed!

Hi, just thought that I would add that I claimed back £150+ of charges from Barclaycard with no trouble at all. Took only 2 letters for them to repay charges in full.. don't know if this is something you have done already or are able to do on a DMP?
    Good luck! :D

    Hey Fredzmum

    Welcome to the site!
I recommend you keep an eye on the DMP support group thread which is normally in the 1st 3 pages or so of the Debt Free Wannabe forum. Every imaginable question about DMPs gets posted on there and it's good to know that we're all going through a similar experience - remember you are not alone!

As well as this site, do you have any othere support? If you don't feel you can speak to your other half about your debt, do you have any close friends or relatives you can speak to in confidence? I can realise entirely that it's hard to open up about debt, but it really helps to take a load off. :D

Good luck on your debt-free journey - it's surprisingly liberating once you face the facts as you have done. Regarding the 'tough times ahead' - I'm a recent DMP-er myself but just to say please don't get yourself too wound up about what may happen. Yes, some creditors are a real nuisance and may keep pestering you, but the majority experience I've read about here is that most creditors accept a dmp from CCCS/Payplan without too much hassle.... (touch wood! Am jinxing myself now!) :o

    Hi DevonGirl

Thanks for your kind response. It's good to hear about people who have had a fairly positive experience. I've browsed the DMP support group link and agree that there's lots of useful information there. Hopefully I won't have too many problems, but the information I have learnt will stand me in good stead.

At the moment don't want to discuss my problems with anyone else, but once I get everything sorted out will try and find a good time to break to OH. I want to do everything that I possibly can before I discuss as I don't want him to be in a situation where he thinks he has to 'bail me out'. Joining this site has been therapeutic and it been a great help to me.

    Thanks again.
