Ladies..are you getting married in a public place?

OH and I were at Urqhurt Castle yesterday for a day out when we saw (and heard, lol) a piper approaching. Turns out there was a marriage ceremony about to take place and he was piping in the bride.
The wedding was held in one of the more secluded areas of the castle, but considering it's pretty much all ruins, you can imagine it wasn't very private.
The castle was still open to the public and it was very busy with tourists, who all stopped to watch the ceremony. I think many of them were really surprised to see this happening here and they were snapping away and filming quite happily, lol. Some of them were climbing on walls to get closer etc. The wedding party were unconcerned and the bride seemed happy but I was a bit surprised to see how 'in your face' (and loud) some of the spectators were being. I expected people to look then respectfully move on, but they stayed and filmed and shouted for their families to come over etc.
Anyway, the point I'm trying to get to....is that if you are getting married in a public place, consider the fact people may not act as you might expect them to and be prepared for your ceremony to be an attraction. A lot of people wouldn't mind this but maybe some would?
The bride looked lovely btw, but she was in an off the shoulder dress right beside Loch Ness and she must have been freezing with the wind coming off the water.
I suspect her pictures will look stunning with the Loch and Castle as a background though.

i think legally you have to get married in a public place, even churches have to keep their doors open so anyone can come in an object! I know this isn't quite what you were talking about, but there nothing you can do to stop people wandering in!0

Cripes she was a brave woman standing out there in that dress! My oh's family moved to Skye recently and when we visited at Xmas I discovered a whole new concept of the word "cold"!Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0

I suspect I would be a gawping tourist thinking how luck we were to see a wedding taking place there! I can imagine foreign tourists (I'm a Scot!) thinking they were seeing something special on their holiday in Scotland (and of course they were)!

Friends of mine got married on a beach in Kenya. It was gorgeous, but a mahogany-tanned, obscenely overweight German tourist in a Speedo stood directly in front of them and filmed the whole ceremony, so he's in all the pictures.
The groomsmen asked him to move but he refused because it's a public beach.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

Well if the bride seemed happy enough then she must have known that th public could be around. (Some people like the attention lol)
We visited Roslin chapel last year and there was a wedding on, and we did stop to have a look - but we would never have made a noise or got in the way, that's just disrespectful.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. Very true. I only mentioned it as I would have thought people would have been respectful of the whole thing and passed on or at least kept a civilised distance and shut their faces, lol. If I thought that, then perhaps other people would think that too and not appreciate just how much of an effect passing strangers can actually have on the whole ceremony.
I only brought it up as a point to think about if anyone was considering being married in an open public place.

I must admit it never occurred to me that could happen though and when I read your post I realised I saw a wedding taking place at Thrieve Gardens, but the public were quite far away.Numpties...I'm surrounded by them...save me...:whistle:0 -

The wedding referred to by the original poster took place in Scotland. I don't know about other parts of the UK but in Scotland there is no requirement for the ceremony to take place in public. Neither is there any requirement for the doors of a church to be left open. Even in England I would be surprsied if that were the case. It is not unusual for people on learning they are terminally ill to be married in hospital or even their own home. I doubt if the public have to be allowed admission.0 -
When I got married I walked to the church, and afterwards OH and I walked to the river nearby to get a boat to our reception, and we had people hooting horns, and a coachload of Japanese tourists took pictures of us! I loved it and it made the day really super-special. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j
