missing 1 mortgage payment

OH went BR in october , we have never missed a mortgage payment ever.

we need money to repair our car.

so what would happen if i missed one months mortgage payment ? by cancelling the direct debit.

as we would use this to repair the car then we would continue to pay the mortgae again the following month as normal. and set the DD back up.

would they try and take 2 payments out?
or just carry on as normal.?

or does it not work like this?

and would it affect early discharge?

If you missed a mortgage payment then you ring them (before they have the chance to chase you!) and say you had unexpected expenses etc and would like to make an arrangement to pay your arrears. I missed 2 months payments end of last year and thats what I did. How much is your mortgage?

my mortgage is £557 a month and i couldnt afford to pay the missed payment back,

just need the car fixing and then will continue payment as normal if possible the following month.

Oh, I see, how about offering them £100 per month until it is paid off or ring them and ask if you can take a payment holiday.

we couldnt afford anything a month to pay back . and we can't have a payment holiday as we are intrest only. so i dont think they will allow this i think i phoned up early last year and asked and they said no then.
i suppose i could phone and ask again.

If you don't ask you'll never know. They are supposed to be helpful to people in need and I must say my mortgage company have been helpful. Good luck.

You could try applying for a crisis loan from Social Security - not sure if they would count car repairs as an emergency though unless you needed it to get to hospital appointments etc.

You can cancel the direct debit -then ring them and say "the bank" cancelled the wrong one, you didn't realise and fixed your car so need to make an arrangement and see if you can add the monthly payment to your total balance. You need to be firm with what you can and can't afford - better to have one missed payment on your credit file than agree to pay more than you can afford to make up the arrears and miss payments regularly.

You could post an SOA up to see if you can save a few pounds a month for an emergency fund for any future expenses.
