You often see the cotton bread bags on ebay, cheaper than lakeland :)

I've got a ham hock in the slow cooker right now :D It's the first time I've done one in the SC so I hope it comes out OK. It didn't occur to me to soak it, so I'll taste the cooking water - if it's horribly salty I won't use it for stock.

I'm planning to have the ham tonight with an onion sauce, spuds and veg. I'll make stock overnight with the bone, and tomorrow I'll use the ham scraps and stock to make Bacon and Parsnip soup which seems to work very well with any kind of ham/gammon/bacon. Any further leftovers will be used in cunning ways at some later date ;)

I wish I could get ham hocks for £1 :( Most of the butchers near me are Halal, no chance of getting dead pig there then!! I paid £2.99 for mine in Borough Market. We don't have any traditional butchers round here, only "meat shops" in the market and they're not the real thing. I've been there at opening time and they just open up huge bags of ready cut frozen meat pieces
I have no idea about bread bags.
