I thought we had got rid of this problem but it seems not.
About a year ago we noticed little flies/beetles and researched and it was furniture beetles (woodworm) (definately that variety, they were in where the electric meter/fuse box is. We treated the area ourselves with some liquid spray that we got in B&Q IIRC.
This past week I have noticed a few adult ones again on the hall walls - GAH!
Maybe we would be better getting someone in to do this properly? and im concerned about the cost as funds are pretty tight at the moment. Its not easy to remove the wood, as its the back of the 'electric box' and NIE might have to be contacted ??
Also we got a new staircase (pine) and doors (pine & mahogany) put in last summer, took me a while to get them all varnished, I would cry if it has spread to them:( though I can't see any sign there and it looks like the adults are coming from the electric box.
Has anyone any advice please?? Thank you

Hi.
I'm no expert but i know they travel - spread by air and anything close at all is in risk.
I have been told stories about neighbours etc being affected by what started a door or two down.
Best of luck...0 -
Are you sure it's woodworm? I had some under my stairs, I never saw them but the tell-tale signs were there, the holes and fine sawdust in wee neat piles. I got a Pest Control guy in and he sorted it out and I got a 25 Year Guarantee Certificate - essential if you're selling and the Surveyor picks it up.
You might be able to get someone from the local Council (prob Environmental Health) to call out for a look, they could tell you what it is without charging but you'd have to sort it out yourself.Life is an endless struggle full of frustrations and challenges, but eventually you find a hairstyle you like.0 -
Yep its definately woodworm. Would you mind telling me, even in a pm who you used?
Will see what we can get sorted over the weekend and if not call the council on Tues.

I believe we used Woodtox a few years ago when we had them in the rooofspace timbers in our last house. I've also had Woodtox here, to sort out a damp problem. They have been around for a long time ( the company that is !)
