Im looking about for a decent priced computer for my o/h birthday, I am looking for an AMD Athlon 64 (at least 3200) 1024 ram and 256 graphics card (he works with autocad so needs a computer that can cope with this. I am also looking for a decent tft, but thought it may be cheaper to buy seperatley?? The above link is one I saw on ebuyer, but it doesn't give many details...Is the graphics onboard? (I dont want onboard graphics)
As you can probably tell Im quite the novice so if anyone can point me in the right direction (I am hoping to spend approx 500 pound for the comp and moniter)
Regards
Vicky

Hi Vicci,
You would probably get a much better reponse along with expert advice by posting in the Techie forum. Forum is here: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=29"There are no pockets in a shroud..."0 -
I'll give you a response in here though... (agreed that regular MSers should probably go over there).
Frankly the PC you've posted has nothing in common with the spec you want. I won't say it's a bad PC, it's just not deisgned for doing anything like what you want of it.
It has an Athlon 3200 (not necessarily even an A64, or the latest version if it is one), with a tiny 80GB hard disc, no DVD writer (so backup is a pain even if you don't want to copy movies), 256MB of RAM for everything, not just graphics, and on board video to eat up some of that RAM too.
The PC you've linked to is a perfectly acceptable basic office PC for a secretary but nothing like what your partner needs.
You're much better off looking at this. Incidentally, although the spec sheet doesn't say it, you get a GeForce 6200SE graphics card - which is a bit slow but will meet your minimum requirements - and 1GB of RAM. 250GB of storage is nice, but better would be bigger and you might need to upgrade in the future although there is room to do this.
Total price is £640 but you can get £11 off if you buy through http://www.greasypalm.co.uk - I appreciate it's over budget but it is good value IMO.Debt at highest: September 2003 - £26,350
Debt now: £14,100
Debt free day: October 2008 :beer:0 -
I think its quite funny. Its like saying Im looking to purchase a Ferrari for my oh birthday, is this Fiesta going to be any good. lol.
The PC you have linked to looks like a good standard basic computer, nothing like your oh needs. Incidentally, if you OH runs AutoCad2005 or perhaps AutoCad LT he may need different specs.
Kind Regards,0
