Hi,
I've done a search but can't find anything along these lines. I'm trying to do a weeks meal plan to add to my Diploma in Homebased Childcare Healthy Eating Policy which is also as cost effective and OS as poss. But am running out of ideas fast and was wondering if I could have any ideas you have pretty please. I'm going to do a batch of mince on a Sunday and use it for the evening meals. I'm particularly stuck with healthy snacks for each morning and afternoon and deserts.
This is what I've come up with so far.
Mon
Breakfast - Toast, cereal or porridge
Morning snack -
Lunch - Choice of Sandwiches, yoghurt
Afternoon Snack -
Dinner - Shepherds Pie, choice of 2 vegetables
Angel Delight and fresh fruit
Tues
Breakfast - Toast, cereal or porridge
Morning snack -
Lunch - Boiled Egg and Soldiers, jelly and ice-cream
Afternoon Snack -
Dinner - Toad in the hole, 2 vegetables, Mashed potato
Bananas & Ice-cream/custard
Wed
Breakfast - Toast, cereal or porridge
Morning snack -
Lunch - Baked Beans, toast
Afternoon Snack -
Dinner - Spaghetti Bolgnaise, garlic bread
Fruit Crumble & Ice-cream/custard
Thurs
Breakfast - Toast, cereal or porridge
Morning snack -
Lunch - Macaroni Cheese
Afternoon Snack -
Dinner - Filled Yorkshire Puddings, 2 vegetables, boiled potatoes
Fri
Breakfast - Toast, cereal or porridge
Morning snack -
Lunch -
Afternoon Snack -
Dinner - Pancakes - Savoury (cheese& sweetcorn) and Sweet (chocolate, lemon/sugar, jam)

My DD's snacks at her childminder are usually fruit (apples, satsumas, banana's etc),raisins (from a big bag in a bowl not the boxes), yoghurts / fromage frais and breadsticks. Occasionally she has crisps but not weekly.Must learn not to count chickens before they are hatched!!!!:D

desserts :banana bread, banana muffins, carrot cake, mini meringues and fresh fruit, jelly & fruit (set in the jelly), flapjack, fruit flapjack, scones
snack: crackers and cheese, crackers/breadsticks dip in soft cheese, smoothies, milkshake, veg and dips, fruit kebabs, cheese sticks, muffins, toast.
soup is fab for getting all the veggies in

As a nanny I find that kids do like a certain routine to their meals, as in a hot meal at one time (lunch or dinner) and a cold meal for the other.
The children I look after have had this week
Breakfast-choice of cereals and toast and fruit.
Lunch (for one-the others get school dinner)-couscous and chicken salad, pasta and cod with sweetcorn and peas, new potatoes with fish and baked beans and tomato soup with bread.
Dinner-Generally sandwiches/pasta salads with fruit for pudding.
Snack wise-dried apricots, cubed cheese, breadsticks, grapes, cherry tomatoes, cucumber and carrot sticks.Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £3650 -
What about breadsticks, carrots, peppers etc with humous for a snack?
I personally would leave out the angel delight and just go with fruit for pudding, yogurt or home made healthy muffins.
It might be an idea to make the muffins with the children as one of their afternoon activities?
What about steamed salmon / cod with potatoes and veg for a meal, takes very little time and costs not too much. You could always put the fish in breadcrumbs for further variety.
Soup is a great option too, homemade veg / lentil would be economical and healthy.
How about growing your own tomatoes in pots outside as an activity with the children and then making roasted tomato soup?
I am not sure my little boy (18 months) would have pancakes for a main course and a pudding, even with different fillings. He always likes to move onto something different.0 -
