Can someone have a look in case I am really daft but I cannot find NI listed on the huge list of countries available to log in on the Guiness home page.
www.guiness.com
I got an email from them and tried to log in to enter comp but only GB and Ireland is available as an option. Could just pick anything but still....

I noticed the same thing. It lists Great Britain and Ireland, but not Northern Ireland. I clicked through as Ireland to enter the site. When I was putting in my details for the competition it gave me the option of Northern Ireland or Republic of Ireland.0

They seem to have it based on geography rather than jurisdictions, although they categorize Malaysia as a geographic region instead of a federal government.
Probably designed by some nerd in Dublin who thinks Ireland is the centre of the universe:rotfl:
Ever notice the same with Lidl's N.Ireland site? It took me ages getting onto it as it was based geographically and not in the UK site.0 -
well we do live in ireland albiet the north, bit of common sense wouldnt go a miss0

It's not that simple to understand it at first cooki, because when we (N.Irish) search the internet the majority are used to visiting sites ending with .uk which incorporates N.Ireland. Now when we're expected to search using geography it's throws a spanner in the works because the republic of Ireland is officially called Ireland, yet the island is called Ireland. It may not be initially realised what it means, does it mean the state or the geographical region?
Personally I think the geographical system is outdated as is evident by Guinness's use of Malaysia. It's just that it's a Dublin based company proud of it's geographical location and it wants to highlight that.0 -
I figured it was probably based on their distribution network.0

It's still considered a bit politically incorrect in the Republic to refer to the UK as you will notice if you read Dublin newpapers. They normally use the word "Britain" which implicitly excludes NI (usually referred to as 'the North'). I would choose the GB option as it probably really means the UK in this case.0

Aye, me too. I was intrigued to see Japan and Malaysia mentioned, but not the surrounding areas.
Maybe they didn't mention the region for these areas because of alcohol laws in surrounding jurisdictions.0 -
According to a mate who works for Uncle Arthur, internally, the Guinness part of Diageo is organised with the North included with "Ireland" in most ways... that's probably why.0
