exchanging GBP for $

I always used to use the local American Express travel agent for US$ as they gave the best rate & I wanted Amex cheques. They've now closed their branch in my town & I wondered whether anybody would recommend a good alternative or should I trawl the high street? tnxs

  • Marks & Spencers aren't bad - but the best place I found was http://www.thomasexchange.co.uk (not in anyway connected to Thomas Cook) - Can never get anyone to beat them normally. You can either pick up the money from them directly or they do a phone order service.

Hope this helps but if you need any further info let me know.

The best alternative to travel cheques is Nationwide debit card or their cash card: The cheapest way to spend overseas: save 6%

those post offices that have money changing services also charge no commision and their rates are comparable to marks and sparks. a good alternative if they are more conveniently located for you.
