A 'different' charity fundraiser.

Hi there,
I have this idea for a fundraiser for two charities very close to my heart.
The idea is to walk from the North Coast of Ireland, to the South Coast of Ireland, a journey of about 350-400 miles.
There is obviously going to be a lot of costs for this, accommodation and meals along the way, etc.
I was wondering if there are any organisations out there who I could apply for Funding to cover the costs. I obviously want the maximum amount of money possible to go to these charities, and therefore am reluctant to dip into any sponsorship I get.
I have an idea of approaching local businesses for sponsorship of certain parts, e.g. meals, and offering them recognition for it.
What do people think?
Richard

Well, one way of reducing costs is to stay in people's homes. It takes more organisation, but it's possible that the charities you are raising money for would ask supporters for help with this.
then again they might not, because they can't vouch for you being a completely upright member of society. In which case there's friends, and friends of friends, and friends of friends of friends ...
Be worth talking to the charities concerned at an early stage, however.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
what a great idea!! and very brave of you! You are best to speak to the charties you are raising the money for, I know that charities usually have a small pot that they can use to help fundraisers (I myself done a fundraiser a few yrs ago and now work part time as a charity fundraiser) if they cant help you then usually they will have all the contacts needed to get the money, and extra support thats required for your trip! Where abouts in Ireland are you starting?Life is what you make it.0

Yea, I could ask them.
Im planning to have a general plan of what im doing and stuff before I put it to them.
If they can see that I'm happy to do the organising mostly, then they should be happy enough to support me. Cant see any reason why they wouldn't.
I dont know how many contacts in the Republic of Ireland they would have though.
Im planning to start from around Bushmills area in the north, down to the south coast. Sea to Sea so to speak.
Thank goodness that organisation is one of my skills.0
