The 'allowances' on your soa with BR are a lot more generous, you can get away with alot more, that is why people ask you to pop your soa on these boards so they can give advice on what you are able to claim.

alot have been in your situation, we looked at iva dmp but we too would have been paying back for 20 years, that was just the debts and did not include the mortgage shortfall as we did not know what that was at the time, it seemed impossible especially as we have kids, the majority of our debt is for a shortfall in a mortgage, that alone was around 130k! the other debts on top of that saw us going BR for over 200k, that is both me and other half.

Overall i know BR was the best decision for us, the worse part is my OH has not been able to open a business bank account, he manages with his co op personal account instead. I am happier now we are br, more relaxed. Yes we have cut back on spending, we have had too.. but you know what.. you cant put a price on a decent nights sleep :)

    Sorry, don't really get you.

I'm out of work getting £57 pw full stop! I'm not paying the mortgage obviously, and wouldn't be able to pay any gas/electric/council tax/etc bills if they came in now. Had 2 weeks work a few weeks back which has given me about £300 in my hand, once that's gone it's gone apart from my £57pw IBJSA.

When the BS re-possess I'll be on the street literally with just my £57 pw IBJSA. Sorry to sound a bit abrupt, that's how it is at present.

I can fully understand how you must be feeling, mike.
Get down to your local CAB as soon as possible. They will be able to advise you re your housing problem, as well as tell you of any additional benefits you may be entitled to.
By the look of it you are most unlikely to get an IPA.
Things will look a it better when you've had some professional advice.

If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

    Cheers.

That's why I went to the CAB, for housing advice. They told me exactly what I expected them to tell me which is that realistically:

Although I qualify for housing in the sense that I have a local connection, am a british citizen, etc, etc, I do not really have any priority needs i,e, kids, wife, disibility, etc and therefore stand little chance of being offered accomodation. There are a couple of things I can claim for (council tax) which I'm already on to, but nothing to transform my situation.

Don't like knocking people like the CAB but they only told me what the local jobcentre/housing people would have freely told me.

I visited the housing advice centre too and did get an housing application form to fill in (takes 14 weeks to process!) but according to my circumstances I need to know the exact date of discharge/eviction before it can be processed so I'll need to let the repossession process advance first.

I've obviously looked into all this and know full well what any advice centre be it the CAB, Shelter, housing office, will say even before I've set foot through the door.

We all know that there is a massive accomodation shortage and those in most need (which is not a fit healty single bloke like me) get what's going. CAB actually told me to consider all options including caravans and tents!

As for the OR I assumed I'd get an allowance up to a certain figure (?) and anything above this I'd be expected to inform the OR of.
