Cheap Washer/Dryer

Hi,
Was looking for a cheap washer/dryer as ours has just packed in and saw that Tesco had the Hotpoint WDL540P at £336.
http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.203-2587.aspx
Can people confirm that this is a good deal or is there a better deal for a washer/dryer out there ?
I would prefer a Hotpoint or a Zanussi as I believe them to be more reliable
I am looking at paying about £350 maximum
Thanks

I had a hotpoint washer dryer and it was the bane of my life! The brand gets a poor review for washer dryers in Which? The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0

i have this model, its been ok, but the only think you can dry in it is towels!
makes everything come out so covered in creases that you cant even iron them out!!
if anyone has some suggestions on this, much appreciated!0 -
Washer dryers are in my experience useless, they are ok at washing, but fry all the clothes that go in then and if it goes wrong you have neither.
Just my opinion.2 angels in heaven :A0 -
I recently got one from comet's clearance site for £200 inc delivery. It just has a dent on the back and I don't care if I can't see it!

I just bought a new machine so have signed up to Which trial. Hotpoint are now made by Indesit, both Indesit and Hotpoint are rated 'below average' on the Which site, I currently have a Hotpoint and decided after research to go with another manufacturer.
Anyway this is the review for the actual model you ask about. Hope this helps.
This Hotpoint cleans clothes well, but is poor at rinsing and takes far longer to dry than other washer-dryers.
We achieved good cleaning results using the cottons and easy care programs and the cycle times are quick. The washing capacity is a generous 7kg, so it's good if you regularly wash larger loads.
But this machine rinses poorly, which isn't ideal if you have sensitive skin, though there's an extra-rinse option you can use to improve things.
Drying is less satisfactory. The cycles use far more water than average, and drying takes much longer than usual - full 5kg load using the cupboard-dry program takes more than 4 hours.
On the plus side, this washer-dryer isn't as noisy as many others, and it is easy to program and use.
This washer-dryer has some interesting program options, including a 'baby cycle', which is an intensive cotton wash program designed to shift tough stains you find on baby clothes. There's also a fast wash, with a program time of just 1 hour, and a silk wash that runs at 30C.
Pros: Large capacity, very good washing results, not too noisy
Cons: Drying cycle is very slow
In the price range you mention their best buy is the Zanussi ZWD12270W1
This Best Buy Zanussi has excellent results on its synthetics program and very low water consumption.
Zanussi recently shed its Electrolux branding, repositioning itself as a company offering outstanding value and easy to use, stylish products to a young, time-poor market. Indeed, this machine has some very quick program times: its cotton wash is among the fastest we've seen.
The cleaning results on the cotton wash cycle are good, but this model worked much better on the easy-care (synthetics) program, where washing was top-class.
Drying is also very good, but be prepared for a longer wait: it takes nearly 3 hours to dry a full load so you can pop it straight in the cupboard. Commendably, this Zanussi uses very little water in the drying cycle compared to most other models. But it does use more electricity than others for this task.
This washer-dryer is easy to program. We also like how you can check progress and time remaining on its LCD screen. However it doesn't have a delay-start option.
This machine has child safety protection.
Pros: Excellent results on the easy-care wash program, quick washing times, very low water usage on drying cycles
Cons: Noisy, electricity use high on drying cycle
Washer dryers dont seem very MSE with the drying times. :eek:0 -

Quite pricey for just a washer but with the amount of use it is going to get in our house a good investment0
