Hi All,
I have been looking around the forums andfound a thread on home schooling......mainly the contributers are from England, Wales and Scotland.......Im wondering if anyone in Northern Ireland home schools their children?
I had word last week that the new tests for the 11+ are going to cost £35 per child with Grammar schools having enterance exams of their own, and im not sure I want to pay for my 2 littlies to go through this!! My 2 oldies passed btw and are going to be going to two different grammar schools in the same town.......Their own decision DS2 didnt want to be compared to DS1 (fair enough) but people have approached me saying that I done the right thing in sending them to the 2 local grammar schools as it paves the way for the 2 littlies:rolleyes:
Reason for asking the starter question (as you can see I get side tracked) is that DD is getting bullied in school (because of a skin condition) and they are doing everything for her to help her........but she hates school she is only 7:(, she cries and scratches etc....makes herself worse sobs so hard that she cannot talk ect
Any help or Advice would begratefully accepted!!!
TIA

I know someone who Home Schools their kids. really not for me to be honest but she's amazingly organised and the kids really seem to be getting on well. I think she used the Internet quite a bit (Obviously all the info available there is invaluable)
HEdNI website. may be a good start. (Type HEdNI into search engine)
I know she has "meets" with other Home Eduactors and has day trips out with them on Educational trips etc. Seems to work well for her.
really sorry to hear your wee one is being bulied. Some kids can be horrid little so & so's some times..0 -
Yep, quite a lot of families home-educating in NI now.
HEdNI website is a good place to find info; there's also an email group you can join via the website.0 -

I'm really sorry about your little girl.
My eldest boy had severe eczema and his PS were amazingly good and he was never teased about it there. It was only when he went to Grammar school that he was bullied about it and as soon as I told her, the form teacher put a stop to it straight away and in a way that didn't single him out for more bullying.
Without contradicting you can I ask if you are sure that the school is doing everything for your daughter as if she is still being bullied I feel they could possibly do more. I would be very concerned about a 7 year old who aleady hates school. It is so hard to keep them motivated. I'm sure you've already done this but do talk to the teacher and principal about this. Home schooling can be very difficult and isolated for both parent and child.0 -
Hi GA
DD sheads skin like there is no tomorrow, she has atopic eczema.atopic dermatitis and Icthyosis, she has just started seeing a psychologist in the Royal.........I also have 3 Sons.....2 of them have Aspergers syndrome but they attended the same primary school:), Its a fantastic country school with 86 pupils in it, Because she "sheads" her skin....(and I can totally sympathise with other children) she leaves flakes on her desk that she shares with her peers and they dont want to sit beside her, she @ 7 is so embarassed about this and the kids have cottened on that they can reduce her to tears quite easily......she is bandaged from her neck down and takes a lot of time going to the toilet as her creams, bandages and wraps have to be reapplied.....teachers are not allowed to help her...IYKWIM...they do but the other children are not allowed in the girls toilets until DD comes out and again I can sympathise!! Its so difficult, DS2&3 are called out of class to help her down the steps to play in the playground.......most of the time she sits on the steps as when she moves her ankles the skin cracks open and bleeds/weeps and then her wraps/socks stick to her and she knows that in the evening when it comes to her getting undressed its gonna be painful, so cries non stop before bedtime!!
Its no joke for anyone in the house!!!!
(we have applied for a classroom assistant) but nothing yet:(:jIm going to be frugal:j:DIm going to be frugal:D;)Im going to be frugal;)Beetlejuice Beetlejuice...................:rotfl:0 -
The poor little mite, what a burden for a 7 year old to carry. All I can say is good luck with getting the help she clearly needs. I hope her condition improves as she gets older too. :grouphug:0
