personal tax alowance help

Please can someone advise me? I think over the last few years I have been on the wrong personal Tax allowance and I personally don’t know why.

For the year 2009-2010 I am on 617L when ohter people are on 647L
For the year 2008-2009 I was on 574L when ohter people are on 603L
For the year 2007-2008 I was on 493L
For the year 2006-2007 I was on 474L
For the year 2005-2006 I was on 489L

Over the last 3 years I have had a second job but my allowance on that is basic rate

I am 32 year old male and got married in april 2008 if that helps.

Cheers

Lee

There could be 100 reasons why your code number is lower than the basic. Benefits in kind, untaxed interest, unpaid tax, etc. We can only guess. You need to ring HMRC and ask for a copy of your notice of coding to check. If you still can't fathom out the reason, let us know what the notice says and we may be able to help.

Well considering the fact that your allowance is down by close to 300 each year instead of a differrent random amount it seems like the samr thing has been coded out each year. I would be inclined to think you are receiving some kind of benefit from your employer such as free private medical treatment, but as Fengirl has said there could be many reasons why it is coded out and you will need to look at your coding notice to find out why. The coding notice will show the amount coded out and say what it is for.
