NHS Dentist charging for an x-ray

    The scan was done on site. The dentist showed concern over bulging in my gums, he did an examination (quite quick one though), he was also very up front with the charge and gave me the option of having it. I was at first confused why something clinically necessary would be optional.

    I've queried it with the NHS dental helpline and was told it should be part of NHS charges. I'm putting together a letter to go to the practice right now.

    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

    We have one of those machines at the practice where i work and we onlycharge the nhs fee (as we should)
