Virtual secretary/admin type work!

Options
Hello!

I'm looking do some work as a sort of secretary/pa to supplement my income, something along the lines of typing, setting up admin systems/databases for small local businesses - just general admin and/or secretarial support really or maybe even events planning/ marketing.

I did do some work for a local electriacian, setting up an administration system and customer database which was ideal. I'm looking to do similar things either working from home or from their premises.

I guess my problem is, I've no idea where to advertise! I did try Gumtree which is where I got the work for the electrician, but most of the replies I get are either from foreign scammers or men offering me illicit encounters!

We don't really have a free paper in my area (S. Manchester) and I'd want to remain independent and not sign up with any companies.

Do any of you wonderfully resourceful people have any ideas to help me get this off the ground?

:D

  • Hi Shreddy!

I work as a full time PA in London and have tried to take on some part time admin / typing to give me some extra cash.

I found peopleperhour very good as they are based in UK. You sign up (no fee) and find posts from companies or individuals who are looking for people. You then place a bid for your work and they will get in touch. The website do take commission from your earnings though.

Another alternative is Elance but this is mainly US and worldwide and there are so many posts on there it is a bit overwhelming!!

Failing that maybe an advert in a couple of local newsagents might work? Advertise your skills and hopefully people will come to you!

    Good luck x

Ahh thanks for that, I'll have a look on peopleperhour tonight when I get home!

I've been thinking about adverts in local shops too, just need to think of something short, intersting and to the point to write....there's a task for the Bank Holiday weekend :o

Hmm I'm wondering whether it's worth advertising in any trade magazines?! Might start Googling to see if any offer free advert placing.

If you are looking to place an ad maybe this would work:
Virtual PA available for typing, database administration and other secretarial duties. Highly professional with 10+ years experience. Please contact me for a no-obligation quote on 01234 567890
Just a suggestion, but short and to the point is best!!

Also, may be worth asking if your local library or sports centre would be willing to put up your ad?

Not sure if it would be of help, but you can place free classified adverts on ebay. I've tried this myself advertising myself as an Avon rep, there are loads of posts on there, but not sure how many people would end up seeing it? Might be worth giving it a try though, as it is free!
Avon Lady since 2009 - I help on the Avon hints & tips thread to help other reps/new sales leaders as I was helped so much by it when I first started out :A
