Belfast City Airport taxi surcharge

From Thursday, taxis not based at the airport will no longer be able to drop passengers off outside the terminal building. Taxis based at the airport will now charge a £1 surcharge to customers.

What's the bus going to do as well now? In my opinion they are shooting themselves in the foot. There's no need for the City Airport anyway, we're a relatively small country and surely the International would do?! It'd need better transport links though, better rail links and roads.

Its awful......IMO
So say a family book a taxi from a rural area......downpatrick say.......roughly 26 miles to ther city airport, costing them around £35.......city airport taxis wont come to downpatrick to pick up a fare.........so therefore the local taxi company has to pay this fee....and then has to add it into the families fare.....Does my head in!! The people in the rural areas always lose out:(, translink are a joke down here, I live just outside Dpk and the bus service runs maybe 4 times a day....completly stops @ 17.50 so if I need to get a flight to england I would have to be sitting at the airport for a possible 13 hours (if the flight was @ 7am) blooming joke.....and they are putting their prices up again!!!!! Dont get me started!!!

Sorry I have to jump to Translink's defence here! The bus service runs 30 times per day (Quite a bit more than 4) and finishes at 21.01! (Quite a bit after 17.50!) See this link here for details. And that's only 1 change at GVS. Downpatrick bus centre - GVS - City Airport.

Im talking about me getting to DPK (n the post you quoted me on)!!!! to get another bus to belfast then to the city airport!!!!!
Dpk buses to the city are frequent, but its me getting there!!! A rural service thats not a school bus!!!!!!!!!!
I wasnt lying yknow!!!
Cant do links.....but they offer maybe 3 buses from my village in the am for schools.....next one is at 10ish.....next one is 1.40, etc weekends are impossible!!! if the kids were dependant on buses they would get nowhere!!!

If a flight was at 7am....... And I have to get to the airport for that time........my last bus to DPK is around 17.50, i get a bus to belfast then another one to the airport can you see where im coming from?? I would have to wait around!!!!!

Ah! You don't actually live in Downpatrick! Oops. Yea, rural services don't really make much money for Translink, with only an average of 2 or 3 people per service. And government funding is being cut all the time, so they are under severe cost pressures. And besides, they ballsed up in buying the fuel 2 years ahead at the peak price!

No I live around 8 miles away from dpk!
Translinks service here is carp:( Sheesh, down accessible transport have more buses out here in the sticks than translink:D

Yea I agree, public transport only really works in towns and cities, and getting between said towns and cities! In my personal opinion, the Metro in Belfast is good, and the majority of rail services are excellent. In Ballymena, town services are fairly good, but hardly anyone uses them! Once you start getting a bit further into the country, the decline is service is pretty shambolic! But then again, what's the point of having a 50 seater bus running empty most of the time? Doesn't do much for the environment!

Metro service in belfast is laughable at times, never do the buses come on time they either leave early, turn up late or never come then you'd have 3 of the same service turning up at once
