Bailiffs keep coming round for person who doesn't live here

Well, it's not my debt but you guys seem to be most knowledgable on this subject!

A few weeks ago, some bailffs came round with a Final Demand for someone who doesn't live here. We explained that to them and they went away, and then later we phoned the company to clarify. We thought that was it, but then today they came back! We weren't in this time so we just found another Final Demand.

What shall we do?!

This happened to me when I took over my mums house, I just showed them my tenancy agreement and signed an avidavit (sp) and then never heard from them again.

You need to show your tenancy agrement or morgage certificate.

are you sure there balliffs ? also show them if they are, proof of who you are etcand then tell them not to come back or you will make an official complaint

And never, never let them into your house if it is not your debt.

Prove it is your house and then if they persist, phone the company who owns the debt and complain of harrassment.

But dont worry.

I showed them some recent bill statements with my name on when this happened to me. They came back one more time after that and I showed them them again and they havn't been back since.

we had this problem when we bought our house a couple of years ago. We kept getting final demand letters from a whole range of companies and letters from credit collection agencies addressed to the previous occupants, and no amount of phone calls from us worked. In the end, we had to go to our solicitor who helped us buy the house and he typed up a letter advisiing we were the owners of the house and what date we bought the property. We sent the letters out to all the companies and they finally left us alone.

Best part was solicitor didn't charge us for the letter

Wave your passport at them and they should go away. If not I'd report them for harrassment and threatening behaviour to the police.

Same thing happened to me in my last flat. You need to show them the tenancy agreement so that they can see that the person they're after is not a legal resident. If you've not updated the electoral roll, make sure that you do that as well so that you've got another way to prove that you're the legal resident.

to be honest if its not you i would not worry about it as stated show them your passport if its balliffs and they take your goods you can force them to bring back your items ie they stole them .....there problem also leaves them opened to be sued (quick buck to be made here) reguards andrew
