Can someone advise if I should get an accountant to do tax return or if I could do it for DH. Last year was 1st year as s/e and it was complicated!!
- He worked PAYE for 6 months,
- then claimed JSA for 2 weeks
- next went self employed for 3 months and had tax deducted at 20% under construction scheme ? utr ,
- then the self employed work finished too and he had to claim JSA again for 8 weeks.
I feel this would be a bit complicated to do myself ... what would happen if i made a mistake - I do my own returns as a childminder but they are straight forward as their is a book printed for the book keeping which makes things straight forward. Any advice welcome.
Also he has paid £622 too much tax when will he get this back?

If he has kept all his paperwork then doing a self assessment shouldn't be too hard.
He would have received a P45 from his PAYE and First JSA claims with the earnings and tax & NI broken down for him to enter on his S/A, as for the CIS 20% tax deductions he will have received Contractor Monthly Statements showing what he invoiced and the amount of Tax deductions made, and the final JSA claim should supply him with a P60 (end of tax year) showing his earnings etc.
The S/A form allows you to request any overpayments to be paid back to you.Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0 -
I think an accountant would just charge you about £150 for sorting that out.It would be worth it just to get it all sorted.0

You can make an appointment to see someone at the tax office for help (for free!!), make sure you take all relevant documents and figures with you when you go.0

Yes it is free but i do not think they will advise on what you can claim for as much as an accountant
