Urgent Help - calling at work!

Hello, I've been a long time lurker on this forum, and gained lots of advice.

I'm planning on going bankrupt in the next 2-3 months - just need to save for the fees!!!

The problem is i've managed to avoid all the calls until now. The credit card company has phoned 3 times this morning and keep being put through to somebody's office, i keep saying i can't take personal calls at work and put the phone down, but they keep on phoning back. As you can imagine this is very embarrasing as its in front of the people i work with, surely they have no rights to hassle me at work? I would be grateful if somebody could give me some advice to what my rights are.

Many thanks

You can ask to speak to a manager or supervisor and tell them no personal calls are allowed and tell someone higher up to take your work number off file. Either that or pretend you are someone else and say "that person does not work here anymore, they left recently".

    Dear Sirs
    Harassment by telephone

    Account Number: XXXXXXX
I am writing in relation to the quantity and frequency of telephone calls that I have received from your company, which I deem to be personally harassing.
I have verbally requested that these stop, but I am still receiving calls. (Delete if necessary)
I now require all further correspondence from your company to be made in writing only.
I am of the view that your continued harassment of me by telephone puts you in breach of Section 40 of the Administration of Justice Act 1970, and the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.
If you continue to harass me by telephone, you will also be in breach of the Communications Act (2003) s.127 and I will report you to OFCOM, Trading Standards and The Office of Fair Trading, meaning that you will be liable to a substantial fine.
Be advised that any further telephone calls from your company will be recorded. (**Even if you don‘t yet have recording equipment!!**)

    Yours faithfully,

Remember......DO NOT SIGN THE LETTER TYPE your name on it instead

    Thanks for all your advice.

I will try the letter but will be surprised if it stops. As I've said I've managed to avoid for a few months now, this is the first time I've actually spoke to someone, so I guess now they've got me they will carry on trying!! Its just embarrassing as the calls are being put through to somebody's laboratory so I'm having to deal with it in front of colleagues!

Guess I should get my act together and file for bankruptcy but its taking me ages to save up for the fees as things keep cropping up!

Thank you again, must say this site has been a real help to me over the last few difficult months, its just good to know your not going through it all alone!
  • Do you have any money left on CC's or overdraft? If so withdraw the cash for bankruptcy fees.

I'm having a similar problems with some stupid payday loan company, the first time i spoke them i was very embrassed, but today i just answered the phone and said sorry i didn't have the information in front of me and i would call them when i got home, and put the phone down, no one at work suspected who it was.
    Hope this helps.

They usually start by asking "is that <your name>" just say no, sorry, wrong number and put the phone down. No need to "deal" with it beyond that.
