I got a bit of a scare yesterday. I didn't realise that money earned on surveys e.g. YouGov is classed as self employment.

I haven't actually gained anything from them but have closed my account so I don't earn anything. I am on incapacity benefit and am not able to work but was trying to do a bit of survey work online when I felt able.

Sometimes I can't last for the full length of a survey anyway! And I definitely couldn't manage a self assessment form so I will deduct my virtual gains from Yougov from my months amount. Only 50p but every little bit counts.

    Hi all,

I'm only at £187 and a few pennies and as I am not including eBay or MBing I am stuck on where to find the extra cash! This month I am going to add in the money-saved on shopping but as that means going through the receipts () I am putting this task off.

Hopefully something will turn up soon. Good job I went for a lower target this month.

    For Surveys:

    A tip on tax.

Before you start counting the dosh, don’t forget some of it belongs to the tax man. For most people it’ll be around a third. Survey earnings are unlikely to push non-taxpayers over the threshold, however, so they should stay tax-free.

As any sources of extra income need to be declared; ensure you’re upfront with HM Revenue and Customs. Survey earnings are self employed income, which means registering with the HMRC Helpline for the Newly Self Employed on 08459 15 45 15 by the end of the third calendar month after starting – or facing an automatic £100 penalty. Don’t be overly worried about this though, it

That was in Martins bit about surveys. From what i remember its if you get paid in cash you have to declare it, if its vouchers you don't. but I could be completely wrong

Just read the article and noticed this:

GFK. Make a free high street voucher
There’s a way to get a free fiver from media research company GfK. It gives away free £5 Ovation vouchers to spend at high street stores when you sign up via this special MoneySavingExpert.com link. (We have no commercial relationship with GfK; it just wanted to do a special offer for MoneySavers.)

All you have to do is sign up, then wait a few days for e-mail with a link to a 10 minute survey. If you complete at least five or more daily surveys in the first four weeks after signing up, GfK will give you a £5 Ovation voucher (valid at Amazon, Next, Argos, HMV and others).

The voucher should arrive within three weeks of you completing your fifth survey. Further surveys beyond the first five will be rewarded with entries into the monthly prize draws; GFK gives away 2,000 £5 Ovation vouchers, and cash prizes including a top prize of £1500.
Chart-32.gifQuick Stats. How do you get paid? High street vouchers. Typical payment per survey: £5 for first five. Payout threshold: £5. Typical time to complete: 10 mins. Feedback/Discuss: GFK

So if you haven't joined GKF before would be worthwhile now
