Can I claim loss of earnings for hospital

Hi
My employer does not pay in wages when I am off sick (no matter what the reason) I am a chef and do split shifts 9am-2.30 and 5.30 to 10 ish

Last week I had a bit of an emergency (ingested petrol by accident) in between my shifts, I of course went straight to the hospital.

However this week my wages are short by half a shift (ie the one i missed 5.30-10) as I was at hospital.

This has happened a few times where I had doctors appointments etc and I couldn't come into work for half a shift.

Is there anyway of claiming back lost wages for hospital, doctors appointments?

Thanks in advance
Jon

I very much doubt it at all, its difficult get even expenses for travelling costs for a disabled child as my local hosipital dont or rather wont see her (due to cash crises) and would rather us go 50 miles to another thospital.

I would of thought you employer would have to pay you sick pay and thus claim it back as statory sick pay from DWP depending on how long you been off.

As for doctors appoitments I am sure you allowed to take time off in works time paid if reasonable steps have been taken ie doctor wont see you as you work shift patterns etc

You are allowed reasonable time off for medical appointments, but your employer does not have to pay you. You could always try the benefits office to see if you can get SSP direct from them.

I thought SSP was only payable after 3 complete days of sickness
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
