Good morning,
We are due to go into rented accommodation soon and the house provides all the kitchen 'whites'. We do not want to sell the fridge, washing machine or dishwasher because they are only between 1 - 2 years go and we may find ourselves back on the housing ladder in a year or two. We would have to store them in the garage, and I would to ask would it be best to keep the fridge plugged in? Also how do I stop the washer and dishwasher smelling?
TIA

My DH runs his own removal business and we always reccommend that fridges, freezers, dishwashers & washing machines are stored switched off with the doors taped open. It stops mould forming if air can circulate. Make sure that the insides are clean & dry & I'd maybe put a small bowl of bicarb in each of them too as it'll help absorb any odours. They'll be fine that way. I stored my own things for 9 months years ago and they were ok. HTH0

I would just give fridge a good clean and leave unplugged. If you leave the door ajar it shouldn't smell too much, could leave one of those fridge smell things or open box bread soda in there.
Washing machine and dishwasher-same advice, make sure no water left in tubing too though. I had a washer/dryer in storage for 6 months and I don't remember it smelling (was nice to get it back though)

If you're storing them in the garage, try not to have them in direct contact with the concrete flooring as this can make them rust.
We've got our chest freezer and tumble drier out in the garage and were advised to put them on bits of wood to lift them off the floor.
