Hopefully people here will provide you with lots of links to goo bargains. All i would say is to keep in mind tha pixels are not everything. A 6mp camera with diabolical lense will take worse pictures than a 3 mp camera with a half decent lense.

Personally for compact take anywhere cameras i like the Casio exilim range, worth looking at as they have Pentax lenses and some are close to your budget.

The Nikon Coolpix 7600 is a pretty good buy. It's 7.1 megapixels and includes a Nikkor ED lens - can't go wrong with a Nikon lens! It uses SD cards which are quite cheap and AA batteries which are widely available (but I recommend you use 2000mAh + rechargeables which is cheaper in the long run). I just bought one of these for my Dad from ebuyer and he loves it!

What type of card did your old one use? Would you be looking for a camera that could use that so you don't need to buy another one?

    The same with batteries.

Old camera is a Fujifilm finepix A403 with a xD picture card 16mb - whatever that means!

It was an ok camera apart from the red eye reduction didn't work on it but my daughter dropped it and so it sometimes works sometimes it doesn't so we need a new one. I just don't want to make the mistake of buyingone then finding out it's no good then to dish out even more money on another.

I have a pentax optio s (bit old now I know) its about 3 megapixels but it is brilliant. About the size of a credit card nice and light and is just perfect for what I need. I see people using SLR digtal cameras and I wonder if they actually need them. Why blow a lot of money on a camera that you are only going to take holiday pics with? Find one which suits your needs. If you dont want to be lugging round lenses and external flashes and stuff like that go for a nice compact one.
