    Hi,
What is the Pension HMRC line in the income tax checker?
I can't figure out how it's calculated or what it is. It seems to be a proportion of the pension contribution, but why?
    Thanks,
    David
  • Can the student loan section be re added? It seems to have been removed from ‘advanced options’
  • Is it possible to take into account if the income is a second job please?
  • For most people outside of Scotland it will be a straight 20% or 40% on a second job (tax code BR or D0).

Put the tax code for the second job in the advanced options

Just what I came here to find out. Anyone any idea? Is it a default minimum? How can you get rid of it - on the assumption you do not pay it?

I suspect the checker is likely to give incorrect results for most people.

The Pension HMRC entry is the basic rate tax relief HMRC add to "relief at source" pension contributions.

For most people this makes no difference whatsoever to their PAYE tax deductions and is very misleading.

Hi. Please excuse my stupidity here but is the situation different in Scotland? I earn £28k pa and it the calculator shows I’ll be paying an additional £200 a year. All the news is saying those earning under £35k will be paying less.

I suspect you were checking before any updates have been made to accommodate yesterday's announcements. Give them a chance to re-program it ...

The change in NIC does not apply until 'from July'.

The  calculation will not update until then.
