VAT puzzle regarding Play.com

Only items under £18 are shipped from Play in Jersey.
Other items are shipped from third party fullfillment companies which are UK based.
So the goods are not imported into the UK from Jersey.
Payment is made to Play but the goods are supplied by UK based third parties.
How does VAT get charged and paid with this arrangement?
Can it be reclaimed?

Following advice from another post, I emailed [EMAIL="customercare@play.com"]customercare@play.com[/EMAIL]
together with my order acknowledgement & reference number requesting a VAT invoice. (Nokia Mobile £200)

I received an acknoowledgement within 24 hours and two days later a VAT invoice by post, complete with VAT number and VAT paid breakdown.:)
