I have one of those wrist ones which came from Boots - it seems pretty accurate as long as you standardise your position. It's the sort of technology that gets cheaper all the time, so they are not expensive.
There's a good article here:

We've got one from Lloyds Pharmacy £12.99, it's got an arm cuff and is quite accurate, it normally gives similar readings as the one our GP uses.

I've got a Boots one. Took it into my GP to have it checked against the ones they use and it was very accurate. The nurse said no matter how cheap they are, they have to perform to a certain standard.0

Thanks a lot meanmum, anguk and shopndrop. I wasn't sure if cheap meant unreliable but I'm glad to see that doesn't see to be the case.0

Lidl had a talking, upper arm one last thurs for about £20. We have a wrist one, which is consistent, but always gives a lower reading than the "proper" ones. Whenever I mention it to a GP, they tend to be pretty disparaging towards these home jobbies, especially the wrist ones. Its also easy to become a little bit paranoid about BP readings, they do vary quite a bit. If in doubt, see a GP.0

My Mum has to take her blood pressure regularly, but it always rockets when she actually goes to the doctors! She records her readings then when she goes to the GP for her regualar appointment he takes the blood pressure with his machine and hers to make sure they are giving similar readings, which they always do. Mum's is a Lidl one from a few years back and still goling strong!0
