Right, I would wear jeans, a stripey top (horizontal stripes better maybe black and red or red and white or whatever you have), a black waistcoat, black boots, a bandana round your head, and add accessories such as a sword, an eyepatch, you could even make a hook hand using some cardboard and a wire coat hanger!0

I was a pirate for a recent fancy dress party! I made my own black waistcoat using black fabric and buttons from a market stall. Maybe you could find one in a charity shop or ebay? From the left over material I made a coin purse for my chocolate coins , I'm 23 not 3... honest!
I wore jeans and tucked them into some boots. I bought a cheap navy and white striped jumper (about £2) and BIG hooped earrings (£1) from primark, got a sword from the pound shop and bought a skull bandana from the market. You could probably make a bandana though if you were making a waistcoat? I also wore a belt and a dangly necklace. Maybe you could tie a feather to an earring too?
Oh and don't forget some pirate jokes - Why are pirates called pirates? Cos they Aaaarrrgh!
What's a pirates favourite type of music? Aaarr and B!
Why does it take pirates so long to learn the alphabet? Cos they spend years at C!0 -
Love the jokes!
Also was a pirate a few months back, I got a black and white striped top in Primark which was £1.50. I wore a black skirt and boots. I got a little waist coat for a couple of quid in the sale.
BUt my favourite piece was my inflatable parrot! Was £1 from the poundshop!:j Baby boy arrived 22nd August 2012 :j

Sounds like tonnes of fun, especially on the beach - fingers crossed for the weather :-)
A bunch of us dressed as pirates for New Year and all were of different inspiration - Captain Hook and co from Peter Pan, Captain Jack Sparrow, Geena Davis from Cutthroat Island, Pirates of Penzance, etc.
Suggest searching fancy dress websites & Google Images for "Pirate" and "Buccaneer" suggestions, then see what you have that fits the bill...
Suggest:
Boots with heel or flats with silver (foil) buckle
Mid-length skirt or black/jean 3/4 lengths - shred the bottom if not wearing again.
Long shirt/kaftan belted at waist
Scarf/sash/pashmina wrapped around waist and left to hang one side
Wide belt with big buckle
Waistcoat - could thread leather cord through button holes for lacing effect
Second belt/gun holster - Kids toy section (Where is Woolworths when you need them?!)
Cutlass - Kids toy section or card covered in silver foil
Medalion-style necklace on chair or leather cord.
Large hoop earring - usually one side only
Cross-body bag / powder bag
Chocolate coins hung from waist belt = pieces of 8
Toy/balloon parrot
Bandana/headscarf - Claires have ones with skull & crossbones on
Tri-corn hat
Black painted nails
Lots of black eyeliner and mascara!
Rummage around the charity shops - I tend to find those that support local causes are more reasonably priced. I found a black felt bowler hat and sewed in three sides to form a tricorn - was very proud of my 'customising' effort!!
Also the supermarkets all have sales on at the moment, Primark, Select, Mark One, etc. Claire's Accessories are perfect for rings & bling etc - especially if you get them on a 3-4-2 day.
There are also lots of sites that would help you with inspiration for the kids party, e.g. printable treasure maps that you can soak in tea for the 'authentic' look.
Hope this helps?
P.S. A pirates favourite shop? Arrrggos!0 -
