try buying passata instead - it will be with the tinned tomatoes and tomato puree. All you need to do is add garlic/ mixed herbs/ whatever else you want and it is a lovely pasta sauce for a fraction of the price. Passata starts at about 28p in my tesco!0

no don't just use tinned tomatoes on their own. you will need to add some tomato puree to make it more tomatoey. Passata works out cheaper, i think, than using tinned tomatoes and then adding puree.
I have dried mixed italian herbs, oregano, a jar of "lazy" garlic and "lazy chillies (they are crushed and in a jar stored in vinegar, which you can keep in the fridge and just use as much or as little as you need). I then just chuck in whatever I fancy for that day! You can also obviously add in mushrooms, peppers, onions, whatever u have in the cupboard! makes it different every time and much cheaper ;-)0 -
It's naughty but a teaspoon of sugar really brings out the taste of the tomatoes. You could also add a little chilli if you like a bit of a kick.0
