Why Favours?

Hi everyone

Until I came onto MSE I had never heard the word favours. I knew about the little sugard almond parcels but didnt know they were called favours.

What im curious about is why are they called favours, im assuming it goes way back but was wondering if anyone knows the origins

Can anyone fill me in.

Thanks

Chris x
