I wanna buy a piece of art for £250. Possible?

I have received £250 in a small windfall, with which I would like to buy something tangible that I can always look at and say thats what I got with that money.

I was thinking I would like to buy a piece of art , such as a painting, maybe by a new artist ?
Does anyone know the best place for me to look.
I live in london.
Thanks in advance.

Try your local Art Society - they usually have exhibitions once or twice a year. You may find out more about them in your local library.
This way you will get an original piece of art for your money and not just a print.
If you are in the London area you can buy a piece of original artwork on the Bayswater Road on a Sunday.
    Born to shop;)
  • Govinder Nazran was a talented Washinton Green artist who exhibited at Castle Galleries. He sadly recently died, I have a few of his pieces and they are sure to grow in value due to his death. Lots of people are buying his works since his death but Castle Galleries are currently holding a retrospective exhibition, you could pop along to your local one and see what they have left.
But of course it all depends on your taste.

It depends if you want an investment, or something that you like.

We have a local art store that often has pieces by local artists on sale that are really nice as well as the run of the mill prints - perhaps look out for small shops like that rather than large galleries.

That said, London might not be the best place to find something like that, you really need little out of the way towns!

Another idea might be to get a piece of jewellery custom made, I have several and they are really nice to wear and bring back memories every time.

What sort of art are you looking for? If you are thinking of a painting, what style or subject matter do you like? Colours? Medium (oils, acrylic, watercolour)? Are you looking for an original or a limited edition?

I'd say never to choose art as an investment as it is always risky, even with well known artists. Choose something you love that has personal significance.

If you are not sure what you like, browse one of the poster sites as these give a good range such as Allposters or Easyart. This will give you a good starting point.
