Hi,
my wife is currently pregnant, and we found out that out local hospital will not tell use the sex of the baby, as they have been sued in the past over incorrect predicitions.
As we would want to know in advance we are thinking about going for a private scan. Can anyone recommend a place where that could be done in the Newry or Belfast Area? How much can we expect to pay, and it the 3D scan worth the additional money?
Regards,

IIRC my nephews wife got a 3d scan in the Ulster Independant clinic, I think it was a good few hundred £ but they said it was worth it. They also told them the sex of the baby.
They used the RVH for the maternity services though, just the independant clinic for the scan

Beware of the limitations of the 3d scans, as they are constructed rather than a real picture0

My wife and I have 2 baby boys one is now 3 and the other is 2 years old.
We got the 3d scan done in 352 Medical Consultants on the Lisburn Road, Belfast.
I would recommend them as both times they were professional in their approach. They will check for things that the ordinary hospital scanners cannot detect. They do and in depth check of the baby's heart and all other areas. The person who is conducting the scan is normally from the RVH so they are very experienced. They also give you a DVD and pictures of the scan as well as a print out of all vital stats of your baby. It was around £250 approx.
Any other questions please feel free to pm me if you need.0 -

was going to get the 3d scans done but then got the price (£250). It is a lot less across the water.
also they say that they dont do the scan until 30-34 weeks so we both decided for the sake of 6 weeks we would wait and see our own 3d scan in our hands!0 -
congratulations on your pregnancy firstly!
i went privatly to Dr.Fogarty who is based in the ulster hospital...but my antinatal care was done at his (absolutly beautiful!) house and some at the actual hospital so i can recommend him!

you can just pay for the scan if you dont want the whole package however when he did my 3d scans(as part of the package) she wasnt in a great position to be 'seen' in that area and so he wouldnt have been able to tell us the sex anyway, BUT a few weeks before at a routine app with him in the ulster he did an ordinary scan....and he told us then!!
so please be careful spending alot of money on a scan that doesnt guarentee you will find out......babies spend most of the 9mths scrunched up in the feotal position !

'scrunched up' - i love that phrase.Life is an endless struggle full of frustrations and challenges, but eventually you find a hairstyle you like.0

Would second the recommendation for 352. Suresh is a great doctor, the place is professionally run... great in every regard.
It's a bit pricey about 4-500 for a 4-D scan (3-d video) I think. To go fully private cost us about 2500 2 years ago... and we'll find out how much it's gone up shortly if you catch my drift.
One other piece of advice... if you're at the Royal, definitely go for Johnson house after you deliver!0 -
Cheaper to get a flight to Scotland and pay £75 there for the same thing.
The only places know of here are 352 Lisburn Road and Dr Foggarty. As someone else said though there are no guarantees, my friend paid to find out the sex and after 3 attempts on different weeks they still couldn't tell her! She did end up getting a partial refund though as they couldn't even get pictures or video done as baby was in such an odd position!0
