BarclayCard LOAN -- HELP!!!

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me with a problem with Barclaycard Loans, which has been ongoing since December and they wont fix it!

I took out a loan for 8.5K in November 08 with the first payment due on Dec 4th, to be paid by DD.

Money came out of my account on the 4th no problem, but got a 'missed payment' letter on the 18th. Very confused, checked my bank statement, and lo and behold, no DD. Rang barclaycard, explained the problem and they informed my they had a problem between HSBC and their accounts with sort-codes starting 21-**-**. Paid over the phone, extra interest cancelled and promised problem would go away next month.

In the meantime checked why this happened with HSBC who said that BC were requesting the money using a different ref. number, so the '2nd stage' of the DD process was rejecting the transfer and returning the money (still didn't explain why they transaction just disappeared instead of going out then coming in!)

Anyway...this has now happened EVERY MONTH since. I raised an official complaint with BC on Jan 4th as they are putting marks on my Credit Record. The only thing they have sent me in regards to the complaint was a letter on March 3rd saying "We would like to update you on your complaint. We are currently not in a position to provide you with a reponse"

I have spent HOURS on the phone to them ringing 0870 number which to date have cost me approx £55. NO-ONE will take any responsibility, I cannot even get to speak to the relevant dept.

I really need to get this sorted. I would like to get a Virgin CC and balance transfer the loan, but I cant do this until my Credit Report is sorted (it used to be TOTALLY problem free).

I have tried contacting the Financial Services Ombudsman, but they have said it will take a minimum of 4 months to get anywhere and up to a year. I can't afford to wait this long.

I have just contacted Watchdog...and you guys are to be honest my last hope!!

The FSO will sort you out. It's just a case of waiting the time.
Got Halifax Classic to reduce my interest rate by 5% woohoo - 10/06/08 Thanks MSE!
    Another 3% shaved off 10/12/08
    ANOTHER 4 % June 09:beer:
  • Thanks for the reply thriftymomma....but as I stated, I really can't wait the 4-12 months the FSO will take.

Is there nothing else I can do?

Call Barclaycard or visit your local Barclays branch. Either of them should be able to provide you with the physical details of your Barclaycard Loan - i.e. sort code and account number. Sort code usually starts 23.

Pay any missed months in to that account number, and then set up a standing order with HSBC 4 days before your due payment date and send the money. The 4 days is in case it goes by BACS. Doing this should then put you up to date, and keep you up to date, with your payments - so you shouldn't suffer any further credit file damage.

Then, write to Barclaycard Complaints, sending it recorded. Tell them you intend to go to the FOS, but you won't if they do the following: re-imburse you for your phone calls and letters, and agree to correct your credit file. Give them 14 days to do this or you'll start with the FOS. Taking BC to the FOS will cost us around £375, so someone should pick up on this and resolve things faster for the simple fact it'll save money.

If they sort it in 14 days, go to the FOS.

  • when you have gone into barclays and got all the details go straight to your bank and set up a standing order instead and cancel the direct debit. i always operate my loans and cc etc this way, saves all the messing aroung that you get when your date falls on a weekend too.
Every day is a school day :T:T:T
