jamiedodger, just noticed in your sig that you're only paying 6.9% on your barclaycard. If you don't mind me asking, how did you manage this? i'm paying 16.9%!!!!

    well i earn 900 amonth
    husband 300 roughly a week
    child benefit 160 a month
mortgage just changed 650 per month
    shopping 300 a month
gas and electric 90 per month
tv and broadband and phone 40 per month
  • Do you get any tax credits?

Gosh, £90 a month on your gas and electric? That's high. Are you in arrears with them? Is that why it's so high?

Could you list it all again in this format: (sorry to be a pain, but it makes it easier for us to read and then it's easier for us to help you :) ) all incoming for the month, totalled up. Then all outgoings (excluding debts), mortgage, bills, food shopping, petrol etc....., totalled up. Then all your debts, the total of each one, the minimum payment for each one and the APR's.

Don't panic, you've done the right thing, you've admitted you need help. You will get lots of help and advice here. It can only get better from now...... :)
Why is there always so much month left at the end of my money?

Might have the answer to this one.......
Barclaycard were doing 6.9% on balance transfers for the life of the balance (not sure if this is still the case). OH and i moved everything off b/card in Jan and then filled it up again so all was at 6.9%
Give them a call and see what they will do.

How much did we over spend whilst on maternity leave
  • Hey tired mum,

Getting out of debt is all about getting organized. Whilst you become debt free you will learn how important accuracy is. You need to start accounting for evyer penny. This sounds hard at the beginning when you are used to money falling through your fingers, but it is possible.

Why dont you start carrying round a book and writing down every penny you spend.

When trying to work out your budget you need to write down everything; tv, phone, mobile, petrol, car tax, birthdays, water etc etc.

Start a spreadsheet. You need to seperate debts and spending. Are you overspending each month. If you are you may need to contact the CCCS (Consumer Credit Councelling Service). If you are not or are close you will be able to cut back.

It can be done. It really can, but it takes commitment and organisation. Keep posting.
