finding a mortgage with previous bad credit history

Hi All. Hope someone can help. Me and my wife have previously had bad debts which are now cleared, 2 ccjs and defaults. CCJ's were from 6 years ago, but only recently cleared due to us selling our home and moving with parents. My wife has only recently found a job and as we are now both earning full time wages and have a large deposit from the sale of our home, we are looking to buy our next home. Unfortunately, we applied for a mortgage with the halifax (maybe not the best thing to do!) and due to our poor credit history, we had no chance. Does anyone know where we will be able to obtain a mortgage and possibly get a good deal. Also, even though we only sold our house just over a year ago, we did move back into parents over 2 years ago whilst we renovated our house in order to get a good sale price. Hope someone can help us.
