Evening Student with a full-time job

Hi,

I would appreciate some advice in relation to the question stated below:

I work full-time but attend college once a week as an evening student...

Am I entitled to claim back any tax?

Thanks

    in a word . . . .no

Students must pay tax the same as everyone else. The only reason many students dont pay tax is because they dont earn enough to be liable to pay tax.

If you are required to pay some kind of expenses to be a student and your job is dependant on you being a student then you might be able to claim on the expenses.

    Sorry.

If in the tax year just past 2008/09(6 April 2008 to 5 April 2009) you earned less than £6,035, then if you paid any tax you should be able to claim it back from your HM Revenue & Customs office.

If you were in paid work on 6 April 2009 you should receive a form called a P60 by 19 May from your employer which will show your gross salary and tax deducted during the 2008/09 tax year. These are the figures you should be looking at to check if you may be due a repayment. You will have to take into account ALL income received in the year, say if you had another job this will need to be considered.
