    Because, Debt = cuts = political suicide.

    Otherwise Labour would have scrapped PFI, as they implied with their opposition to it before 1997, rather than continuing it and extending it...

    60%, 80%, what would it matter, if you say borrowing is so wonderful.

    No need to quote the Golden Rule constantly, or mention prudence, or pretend boom and bust had been eliminated...


    one point, you said "80% = less than decades of latter half of 20th Century".

    decades = 2 out of 5...and the first decade was while rationing was still happening. Hardly surprising, and at such good rate, 2%, as said elsewhere why rush to pay it off. Its different this time.
