Birthday gift for a very bright 7 year old boy

I have a birthday coming up for a relative who is going to be 7 years old. He is a very bright child and I would like to encourage him with a stimulating gift.
However, I am not sure what to buy him.
Does anyone have any ideas of what I could get him?? ideally within £50 and with an educational focus but still fun too.
Thanks!

Hi, this is a present I got for my nephew for Christmas. He is nine and loved this, it is fun and educational. It says 8+ but if he is bright I don't think he'd struggle with it.May Wins: Annual Merlin Premium Pass, Annabel Karmel Bowl and Masher
June Wins: 4x Olympic Torch Relay Leeds City Celebration tickets,
July Wins: Family Photoshoot with free print, Hexbug Spiral Starter Set0 -
How about a trip out somewhere rather than an actual gift.
Maybe a museum trip or some where 'interactive' in your area.
My kids used to love going to the London museums (most are free) and spent the money on train fare/ lunch etc.
Edit. Sorry I've just realised I've assumed they live near you, sorry0 -
I got my very bright DS1 a subscription to Children's National Geographic for Christmas and he loves it (he was 6 at the time) - better still, I paid for it with Tesco Clubcard vouchers!0
