Keeping ice frozen all day

Hi everyone!

I need to take some ice cubes to work with me, and the cubes need to remain well frozen for at least 8 hours. At work, there is absolutely no access to any sort of freezer anywhere (although there is a fridge - but with no ice-box).

Does anyone have any tips on how to achieve this seemingly impossible task??!

thanks all!

Lots and lots and lots of insulation :D A cool box stuffed with ice packs, wrapped in blankets, etc, and you might stand a chance.

Any chance of going home to collect them nearer to when they're needed  Can anyone bring them to you later in the day  Can you buy ice from a supermarket or drinks store closer to the time

I've givne this more thought while eating breakfast :D

You could try stacking them neatly into a plastic tub (and keeping this tub in the fridge all day. This will minimise the air gaps between the cubes, so reducing melting.

How about putting the cubes into a vacuum flask, and keeping this in the fridge?

Do let us know if any of this works :D

Don't know if it would work but wrap it in tin foil. The reflective nature will reflect the cold back on itself.

Not very MSE, but any chance of nipping out to a supermarket or offie half an hour before you need them and buying a bag?

Wow..thanks so so much for all your tips..you are trully a wonderful bunch!

I'm gonna try the tips you've given. I never considered that air-gaps between cubes might make them melt quicker. I will also try vacuum flask too. Because of your ideas, I'm wondering if i could freeze ice in the flask itself and then put this in the fridge at work.
thanks again everyone. I love MSE soooo much!

It might break the glass in your flask if you freeze the ice in it.

What I do if we're going out for the day is fill an empty squash bottle 3/4 with water and freeze that, (sort of like a cheap and big ice pack), wrap it in foil and then a tea towel. It keeps frozen for quite a long time in a cool box so should stay frozen for longer in the bottom of a fridge.
