Trouble with AOL

We've been with AOL for years now but are having a lot of problems, especially since going to Broadband  . It keeps telling us that "they have encountered a problem with our software and need to close down" - then they restart it again. This is happening so many times now that anything we are doing/looking at the connection is lost.
Yesterday we got booted off and couldn't get back on until this morning.
We could uninstall and then reinstall the package again but OH is concerned that we would lose our settings
. Personally I think we should forget AOL and switch to someone else but the problem is that everything to do with work is all AOL and it would be horrendous to let everyone know where we've moved to!
Any help would be appreciated - thanks!;)

If you are using XP you need to apply a patch to stop these interruptions. Go to Keyword and insert XPSP2 or similar and this will insert the patch. Voila!
At work at the mo so the keyword is from memory - may be slightly incorrect.Middlers0 -

I had exactly the same problem.I was with them for years no problems at all as soon as I got broadband off them I had nothing but problems with them.I was put through to all different departments even ' retentions ' 3 times.I eventually got through to 2nd level tech help and he fixed the problem from his end immediatly. They say you have to ring with the same problem 3 times before you get this department but just insist with the retentions and they will put you through also tell retentions you are closing your account because of the inconvienience and the cost of your time and phone calls , they will do eveything to keep you .Over a 2 week period I ended up getting a total of £63 credit to my account , 3 months free and a permanent reduction on both my phone line and my broadband.I think this was because I had TOTALLY had enough of them messing me around.
My last and most important piece of advice is do not under any circumstances deal with any of the staff in the call centres in India , in my opinion they have no idea what they are talking about and gave me no compensation ever .I believe they are reading from a script and when I was using the free number I use to ask them questions off the script on purpose ( cruel I know but believe me you would have to deal with India to understand why I done it ) In the end if I got through to india I would put the phone down and wait until I got through to Ireland, the staff there are unbelievably helpfull especially in the 'retention; department. When my connection was finally sorted out to my satisfaction and all the credits was applied to my account I then wrote a strong letter to the head office I recieved a nice reply and another £20 credit to my account for all the inconvienience.
I am now again very happy with AOL and it's going to be monthssssss before I need to pay a bill for my phone or broadband .
GOOD LUCK and let us know how you get on.Wish I could stop editing EVERY post I make :mad:0 -
THANK YOU! Exactly the same as us! :j So pleased we aren't the only ones. Shall now endeavour to make several, no doubt, long calls. Shall let you know how we get on!0
