Sainsbury's price hikes.... what have you spotted?

Sainsbury's loose broccoli was about £1.37 per kilo twelve months ago, went up to £1.59 and yo-yo-ed between the two for a bit. Today it's £1.99 per kilo! Not sure what price is at other supermarkets and elsewhere lately but definitely they've increased it by nearly a third over 12 months.

Granny Smiths Apples - bag of six now £1.99 and I'm sure they were not anywhere near that a couple of months ago. (I bought loose ones instead which are about 50p per kilo cheaper).

Less dramatic but annoying to me at least, Kleenex Ultra tissues, twin pack have gone up from £2.70ish to £3.13ish. Now I get through a lot of tissues (sobbing about price increases LOL) and normally stock up on these when they're on promotion at about £1.59 so seeing them at over £3 just not funny at all.

I wondered what other outlandish price increases people had spotted in Sainsburys?

it's £1.98 a kilo at Asda and has been for a few months now. Also £1.98 a kilo at Tesco, same sort of timescale. Seems like Sainsburys have just been a bit slow to catch up then.
  • An indirect price hike, i bought bertolli pasta sauces 'half price' in sainbugs the other day, and noticed that the jar size is now 400g and no longer 500g. This is becoming increasingly common across all brands and stores though i think.
  • Only one I've noticed (altho a very new convert) is the Basics Mozzarella Ball (fantastic, btw) has risen from 47p to 55p in the matter of a week. Still great value, though. IMO.

HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??
  • I'm a new convert to Sainsbury's basic range, spurred on by Martin Lewis's program urging us to go a brand lower! I have tried quite a few of the basics ranges on my family these last two weeks. My daughter loves the fromage frais at 50p for 6 and the chocolate mousses for 4 are 37p I think, OH loves the marmalade at 27p and the family pack of biscuits for 58p but the best buy has been the curry sauce at 11p we add tinned pinapple and cashews, it makes a lovely chicken curry in the slow cooker. However we noticed that last week the cashews were £1, quite a large bag, but this week I paid £1.15, quite a jump I thought.

We have also used their basic washing liquid, and the foil is a bargain at something like 33p. I love Feta cheese and they do an awesome pack at £1.10 ish. I cant wait to try out more of the range, but I suppose as we all try and buy more of them, they will put up the prices as we up their popularity!!! Especially as there other more expensive ranges will suffer!!

Also be aware that the basics range is not always the cheapest. This week the basics Garlic bread was 44p, there own brand next level up, a much bigger/fatter garlic bread was also 44p!!

    Happy shopping:T
