Wedding Menu Ripoff

I'm sure they will come up with some explanation involving extra wedding costs but it's worth a go asking, if nothing else £15 for chicken nuggets, chips and ice cream is a total rip-off. I'd try and push for the half portions, at least the children will get better food as well.Got married 23rd May 2009, many thanks to all on the Weddings and Anniversaries board for their help and support!

I appreciate what people are saying about the extra costs involved re staff etc but how much extra staff are really needed for 40 or 50 covers as in the op's & mines case, surely part of that can be outweighed by the fact that they are guaranteed to need that much meals & can buy in bulk & it's not as if they are having to cater for an extra 200 people. Champagne, table decorations & balloons are not covered on my bill for meals they would be extra so they aren't factoring that into the costs either. We are paying £20 for as near as dammit the set meal that they will be charging people £10.45 in the next room. At least our kid's meals are only £5.Booo!!!0

As Violetta said, the balloons, champagne, wine table decorations etc are extra as are the 'nicer' crystal glasses!!!!! I could understand the additional waiting staff but buying in bulk is cheaper so why the additional is so much I can't fathom.
As Bride on a Budget suggested, maybe a bbq but that is not an option in our room. We need to be in the other function suite for that option with a minimum of 100 ppl.
I emailed them and got a reply today as below. Want to reply as the roast dinner they mention is not 'half' portion of what we get, it's chicken (we are having beef) and they still only get vanilla ice cream for dessert and it's £3 pp more than half the cost of our meal.
Dear Faye,
Thank you for your email.
Our Wedding Price is that as quoted in our Brochure £27.50 per person, children’s meals are available at £15.00 per child under 8 which includes a goody bag and a roast dinner is one of the options on this. Our Sunday Lunch is a promotional price we offer and a meal in the restaurant does not have the same set up, attention and service that is involved with a Wedding.
We hope this answers your questions.
Regards

Posted this on the Aug 09 thread then remembered your thread faye, at least we have had a more positive response, I'm going to try and see if we can perhaps negotiate, really feel that going into the restaurant will interrupt the flow of the wedding.Ok, well I finally got round to contacting the venue, they are happy for us to pick from the set menu . But we would have to go into the restaurant for the meal then back into the reception room for the rest of the party
sorry but !!!!!!??? Surely that will just make things more complicated for them too.
Really not sure how I feel about this, but it would be a saving of almost £300. Hmmmm !!!Booo!!!0 -

Its a v big difference though aint it.. £13 pp for the extra attention to detail??0 -
Absolutely my point. We're at 60 ppl and around 15 kids so that's a massive difference. I am not sure where to go from this email though to be honest.0

Have you booked yet? Try seeing if you can hint of cancelling. they might reduce it lolQUIDCO £2827 paid out since October 2007:D0 -
Oh Faye it's a nightmare isn't it, what about if you suggest you all go through to the restaurant for the set meal, as you are struggling to afford the higher price they probably won't want that as it means they will loose that many spaces in the restaurant so may be more willing to compromise

I think I'm going to email my venue & say we don't wan't the full set menu but to pick our options from it to bring down our costs and see if we can meet somewhere in the middle.Booo!!!0 -
We have booked it and paid £1750 deposit so if we threatened to cancel I would be worried they would call my bluff and we'd lose the deposit. And ten I'd have to find something else and all the invites have been done.
Violetta, they dont open the restaraunt on a Friday day - they turn it into a chapel and that's where we are having the ceremony. I think I will just have to put up and shut up tbh. But it has really narked me I must admit!!!!0
