Hi,
As you maybe aware, the Government recently announced that £2000 will be taken off the price of a brand new car purchased if you part exchange it for a car that is
1) 10 years old and
2) you've owned it for more than 1 year.
Please submit your best cars you've seen using the £2000 off.
Bearing this in mind, 15% of the car value is taken off immediately after you've purchased it, the total price cannot exceed more than £13.33k ( ( 2K x 100%) /15% ) otherwise you're better off getting a 2nd hand car which has done only a few miles.

No matter what the government offer, buying a new car is not moneysaving. We recently traded in an 11 year old vw for a less than 4 year old mondeo estate. Its immaculate and although high mileage is likely to last us donkeys years as we rarely change cars. Therefore our depreciation over say 7 years will be a maximum of £4000 (total price of car before trade in). I don't know the exact price new 4ish years ago, but suspect it would be £15,000 or so. Somebody has lost over 10,000 on our car in 4 years, about 2500 per year, plus the interest if they had a loan on it.. Our depreciation will be a maximum of 4000/7=571 per year and possibly a bit less if we sell it on. Repairs on our old cars over the years have not been too excessive either.0

I think a lot of people forget that although depreciation is a big factor in MOST new cars, you dont have to fork out for MOT's and Full services for 3 years. You also get a three year warranty, and most new car dealers will give you a years free breakdown membership.
I bought my new fiesta last March for £6800. Its a Fiesta Style in panther black. I wonder how much I have lost in the past 13 months? Probably about £1000. How much would it have cost to get my old fiesta through its MOT? Probably about £300, plus a full service, then my breakdown membership was due, and it used more fuel.
There are pro's and con's. This government scheme is ideal for some people.
Edit - I dont think I will buy a second hand car again. Looking at getting the new new Fiesta Diesel next March. Road tax is only £35, and the fuel economy is much much better that my petrol one now.0 -
You do have to have full services within the first three years. It is generally the first service (interim service) at say 8,000 miles and is basically an oil change and a check up, and then a major service at say 16,000 miles. Obviously it will vary from make to make though.0

i think this scheme is stupid, the reason i owna car that is over 10 years old is because i cant afford a new car!!!! so i am suddenly going to be able to find 7k to go and buy a brand new car just because the gov is offering me 2k?? i dont think so, unless they are suggesting that i take out a loan to afford it... oh yes more money that i cant afford for the banks to fleese out of me. so i think i will have to keep hold of my old banger as this scheme is completely useless to meCompers challenge 2024 wins!!!!.... Oct £60... £10 free spins, £50 palm, m&m pouch0

There is also no guarantee that this is another classic govt scam to rip the public off, the car dealers have probably alreday inflated the prices by 2k ??0

No, but lets be honest, if you go in to buy a new car, you're going to get a big chunk off anyway seeing as they're not selling very many. If you go in waving your £2000 off letter around, they're just going to say that they cant shift from the list price, hence its worth about the same as the square route of f**k all, in my opinon anyway.0

I dont think that the dealers can fiddle with the list prices can they?0

but thats what the manufacturers did they put the prices up at the beginning of April in fords case by a £1000 which covers their portion of the 2K and we thought the government didnt tell anyone before the budget0
