in Cutting tax
As i am from Australia and to a complete a tax return is law i check mine and my OH's P60 every year without fail with online tax refund calculators.
I have checked his twice on 2 different websites and i get the same amount, a refund due of £760.11 .
He was out of work at the beginning of 2008 tax year and didn't start working until July 2008. He got contribution based job seekers allowance, but you're not taxed on that are you???
He earn't £7,752.46 and paid £1,103.60 in tax, his tax code was 556L W1.
Anyone please confirm if i have everything right, especially with regard to him job seekers allowance?
Thanks

Yes you are taxed on Job Seekers Allowance.
Given that his tax code was W1 (=week 1, non cumulative) then he could still be due a (smaller) refund as he has an unused proportion of his allowance - but the JSA to add to his income0 -
As neither of you are domiciled within the UK and the law changed on 6 April 2008 the answer will also depend on whether or not you choose to elect the remittance basis on your UK tax returns.0

How can you pay tax on job seekers allowance when he only got like £60 a week.
Guessing he'll get a p60 from them as well then soon, so will have to wait until he gets that???Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -

If your only income is JSA then you won't pay tax as it's within the personal allowance. But it's still assessable to tax if your income for the whole year including the JSA is above the allowance.0 -
Thanks for that. I've just dug out my OH's P45 from when he signed off from JSA, that pay amount was £958.61. He was unemployed at the beginning of the tax year, didn't find employment until the end of July.
Do i just add this to the £7,752.46 he earn't at his current place of work?
Based on that he's refund is now £568.39.
Sound about right?Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160
